Newcastle head to Ewood Park on Tuesday to take on Championship side Blackburn in an FA Cup third-round replay.
The pair played out a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park earlier in the month, Rovers taking the lead on 56 minutes through Bradley Dack, only for Matt Ritchie to equalise from the penalty spot late on.
Rafael Benitez’s side lost 2-1 at Chelsea on Saturday and with them dropping back into the bottom three, the Spaniard is expected to name an understrength side as he looks towards next weekend’s visit of fellow strugglers Cardiff.
Both Mohamed Diame and Jonjo Shelvey are struggling with injuries and their side’s midfield issues are further complicated by Ki Sung-yueng’s absence at the Asian Cup.
On-loan Kenedy could get a start after recently falling out of favour while Blackburn could also make changes, although Jack Rodwell looks set to continue in central defence due to Charlie Mulgrew’s hamstring issue.
Midfielder Joe Nuttall could also make his first start since August, while Adam Armstrong will be desperate to get the nod from Tony Mowbray against his boyhood club.
Rovers won 2-0 at Millwall at the weekend and two straight Championship victories have helped allay any relegation fears.
Blackburn have only lost one of their last six home matches against Newcastle in all competitions and will be looking to cause an upset in what is likely to be a cagey affair at Ewood.
